Upper School
The Lee Academy Upper School is an accelerated and advanced program for college bound students of outstanding academic and/or artistic ability. Small class size and teachers with subject area degrees, contribute to the successful completion of a rigorous college preparatory program. The majority of classes are taught on the honors level involving frequent discussion, extensive reading, analytic writing, scientific methodology, and in depth exploration as appropriate to the subject area. Advanced honors courses are offered to juniors and seniors based upon availability and faculty approval.
Senior Thesis All graduates must successfully complete a senior thesis project composed of a major research paper and presentation on a subject of the student’s choice. Thesis students are directed by faculty advisors, including outside experts in the subject area when appropriate.
Dual Enrollment Lee Academy participates in a dual enrollment program with local colleges. Juniors and seniors are encouraged to explore areas of personal interest in a college setting. In the past several years, Lee students have successfully completed courses including Calculus I, II, and III, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry II, Bio Systems, Punic Wars, Art History, Shakespeare, and Modern Novels. Successfully completed university courses are awarded advanced honors status. Typically, Lee students will have taken from 4 - 8 college courses at USF upon graduation.
Advanced Placement Program
Due to the small size of the school, and the participation of most students in the dual enrollment program, Advanced Placement course offerings are limited to one or two per year.
Rank In Class
Because of the highly academic nature and extremely small size of the school, Lee Academy does not rank students numerically. A senior class will have no more than ten students; the graduating classes spanning the last ten years have ranged from one to six graduates. Individual, unweighted grade point averages are reported.
Grading
Lee Academy reports letter grades each semester.
Ranges: A = 4 (90-100%)
B = 3 (80-89%)
C = 2 (70-79%)
D = 1 (60-69% and below)
